American Issues Project Announces Second Stimulus Ad

American Issues Project releases additional ad to address growing stimulus package concerns.
Washington, DC – February 24, 2009 – American Issues Project released another television ad amidst growing concerns of how funding from the far-reaching stimulus legislation will be used across the country. The ad will begin running today on FOX News, CNN, CNN Headline News, CNBC and FOX Business Network.

“We cannot remind Americans enough of the egregious burden our federal government is placing on our families,” said Ed Martin, the organization’s president. “Before March of this year, the government may very well have spent $1.1 trillion. We must insert a little logic into Washington’s spending spree.”

Like the advertisement released last week, the new 30-second spot showcases examples of the billions spent on pork projects—including golf carts, fish hatcheries and remodeled federal offices—and targets liberal senator Charles Schumer for his claim on the Senate floor that “the American people really don’t care” about “porky amendments.”

American Issues Project’s ad also notes that the non-partisan Congressional Budget Office claims stimulus package funding will not help the economy in the long term.

“Washington is behaving as though it is spending Monopoly money and seems to have forgotten that all of this money must be repaid,” said American Issues Project President Ed Martin. “What may have begun as a sincere effort to help the American people has spun out of control into unsustainable debt that rewards special interest groups.”
